On 15 February 2023, we ran a webinar on the topic of ‘Mis- and Dis-information‘ as part of our Casualty Recording in Practice series.
Misinformation – false and misleading information inadvertently spread; and disinformation – considered as false and misleading information deliberately spread, are not new. However, digital and social media are enabling misleading, false and harmful content to spread at a rate that is endangering society, at a level where facts and truths can be a matter of life and death.
We know that members of our Casualty Recorders Network find this issue particularly challenging and pressing.
We were pleased to welcome three speakers to the event to talk about their experience of the issue:
1. Professor Marc-Antoine Pérouse de Montclos, Senior Researcher at the French Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), on behalf of Nigeria Watch.
2. A speaker from Videre, an organisation working in some of the world’s most hostile environments, equipping local people with the technology and training to capture visual evidence of human rights violations.
3. Vadym Miskyi, Program Director of NGO Detector Media, a Ukrainian think-tank in the field of media freedom and countering disinformation.
Due the to sensitive nature of the topic, this webinar is only available to view to members of the Casualty Recorders Network.
