Confidentiality and exclusivity

Casualty recorders should clearly define their relationship with staff members - be it through a written or oral contract - and should require confidentiality and exclusivity from them.

A contract will always be necessary, to establish what the rights of the staff are, what kind of protection they can expect, but also to define how they should manage the sensitive knowledge they will acquire through their dealing with the casualty data. Contractual ties also create a legal chain of responsibility both for the employer and the employee.
