Every Casualty Counts Ten-Year Report (2024)

For the last 10 years, Every Casualty Counts has worked to promote and support the effective recording of all casualties of armed violence or gross human rights violations, wherever they occur. To do this, we have worked and continue to work with civil society, states, and intergovernmental organisations globally. We strive to ensure that every death from armed conflict is recognised as an individual human tragedy, not just a statistic. Our work spans both current and historic contexts of armed conflict and gross human rights violations.

This report focuses on the growth and work of Every Casualty Counts since we became an independent organisation in 2014.

…Throughout these ten years, the team at Every Casualty has conducted groundbreaking research, lobbied governments and international agencies, advised commissions of inquiry and briefed military experts. We have provided guidance, training, funding and professional support to casualty recorders across the globe. We have worked ceaselessly to realise a world in which every person killed in armed conflict is acknowledged. The impact of this work has been recognised by the highest international bodies, and by the individuals who contact us seeking news of a loved one… – Rachel Taylor – Executive Director
