ACJPS runs three mutually reinforcing programmes of work to achieve an improvement in the human rights situation in Sudan: i) Human rights monitoring programme; ii) Legal programme; and iii) Advocacy Programme. The institutional objectives of ACJPS are to:
- Document Human rights violations (HRVs) and protect those at risk
- Hold perpetrators of serious HRVs to account
- Ensure effective access to justice and obtain reparation for victims of gross HRVs and serious violations of international humanitarian law
- Strengthen respect for human rights in Sudanese governance, society, and culture.
The ACJPS team has a wealth of expertise to collect, analyse, and influence information and policy concerning the human rights situation in Sudan. Working with its network of pro-bono lawyers in Sudan, ACJPS pursues strategic cases at the domestic, regional, and international levels. ACJPS engages in advocacy efforts on Sudan with regional and international governments and intergovernmental entities, including United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) bodies, as well as UN human rights treaty bodies and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).
