International NGO Every Casualty has appointed Gavin Crowden as its new Executive Director.
In this role, Mr Crowden is responsible for leading the talented staff team, developing strategy and engaging externally. Gavin joined Every Casualty from Concern UK, where he was Director of Policy and Campaigns. He has over 20 years’ experience leading teams in humanitarian INGOs and the UK government. Gavin has worked on a wide range of conflict and humanitarian issues around the world, including the Syria refugee response, prevention of sexual violence in conflict, and the children in armed conflict agenda.
Gavin joined Every Casualty on 15 March and has been working with the staff team and Trustees to finalise a new brand identity and online presence which they also unveil today. On his appointment Gavin said:
“I’m really excited to join the Every Casualty team. I’ve already been impressed by the quality of the people, the importance of our work, and its potential. I’m grateful for the faith the Trustees have already shown in me and blown away by their commitment to our casualty recording cause.”
Explaining the rationale behind the new name and online presence, Mr Crowden continued:
“We’re really proud to share our new name, website and social channels today. We decided to change our name to Every Casualty Counts to make sure that the value we put on people – on their dignity and rights in life and death – is at the heart of what we do.
We’re building on the amazing impact this organisation has achieved over the last ten years. We hope this puts us in the best place to achieve even more over the next ten.”
Professor Michael Spagat led the recruitment process, as Chair of Every Casualty’s board of trustees. He said:
“We’re delighted to appoint Gavin to lead us into the next phase of our development. After an extensive search we were all agreed that Gavin was the right person to take Every Casualty’s impact to the next level. His passion for people and impact shone through and we will benefit greatly from his wide-ranging experience and managerial acumen.”
